Community Comes Together on NC Housing Day as Patriot Roofing Installs New Roof for Local Veteran
On Wednesday, April 9th, Patriot Roofing & Exteriors, in partnership with Owens Corning and Crystal Coast Habitat for Humanity, proudly celebrated NC Housing Day by installing a brand-new free roof for U.S. Army veteran Rufus Montague, Jr. The project was part of the national Owens Corning Roof Deployment Project, which supports military families across the country by providing critical roofing repairs at no cost to the recipients.
The event took place at 500 Olive Court in Jacksonville, NC, and drew friends, neighbors, and local supporters who came out to celebrate service, community, and housing security. Roofing work began early in the morning, with Patriot Roofing & Exteriors donating their labor and time, and Owens Corning contributing all roofing materials to make the project possible.
At 11:00 AM, the atmosphere turned festive as hot dogs were served fresh off the grill to all who attended. The event also featured a visit from Canines for Service, a nonprofit organization that trains and provides service dogs to veterans with PTSD, mobility challenges, and other service-related needs. Attendees had the opportunity to meet one of the service dogs in training and learn more about the life-changing work the organization does — all at no cost to the veterans they serve.

We’re proud to support veterans and highlight the importance of safe, resilient housing for all.”
The Owens Corning Roof Deployment Project has provided new roofs for over 650 military families nationwide, and this project marked another significant milestone in that effort. It was a powerful reminder of how local businesses, nonprofits, and volunteers can work together to make a lasting impact.
